SBK is an art rental & gallery for individuals and companies. With our services we aim to attract the interest of a wide audience in contemporary art. We have been doing this for over 65 years! We believe that art does not only belong in a museum but should be part of everyday life; at home, in the workplace and in public spaces.
Art gives color, art makes you see the world differently and art even makes you happy. And so, we believe that everyone should be able to experience art. Without queuing for the museum, but in the comfort of your home. Accessible and affordable. And yet of high quality.
We offer a platform for artists to present themselves to a wide audience. From artists who have already earned their spurs to young up-and-coming talent.
Stichting Beeldende Kunst (SBK) was founded in 1955 by artist Pieter Kooistra. He wanted to build a bridge between art or the artists and the public, in order to make art accessible to everyone.
With a cargo bike full of works of art by artist friends, he went out into the world to spread art. More than 65 years after its foundation, the Stichting Beeldende Kunst still pursues the same goal, without subsidy.
Pieter Kooistra was a special man. On the one hand he was a versatile artist. On the other, he used his creativity for all kinds of ideas in the social and economic fields. In this way he not only wanted to bring art within everyone’s reach, but also developed the idea for a world basic income: the UNO plan.
